RDAC for CAN

Post by viper22 »

With the Yamaha 2,3,4 cylinder snowmobile engines getting popular for use in different airplanes will a MGL RDAC that interfaces using the CAN buss be developed for these engines? Will a current CAN RDAC work with just new programming?

yes with new programming should not be an issue. The challenge usually is to get decent documentation on the ECU CAN bus protocol used.

Rainier, Exactly what do you need from Yamaha to be able to make this work? Here is a link to a replacement ECU for the 2006-2010 Yamaha Apex engine which is the most popular right now. https://www.motec.com.au/filedownload.p ... docid=4031

You need a document that states the particulars of the CAN bus protocol used (baudrates and formats), then a list of labels with documentation on what each contains (data types and formats).
The Motec ECUs are completely configurable by the implementer for the engine so just knowing that it is a motec does not help at all. The implementer (in this case I suppose Yamaha) decides what gets sent out of the CAN bus and how.
