Has anyone got or know of a Heads Up Display Indicator which will work with the AOA in the MX1 EFIS?
Thanks

Re: HUD
I'm working on a small AOA HUD display it with our FlyOnSpeed AOA Design Team. Picture below shows a our Small HUD (~2.5" x 2.5") on my RV8 Dash Board, The display is a M5 Stack ESP32 Arduino (~$30) with our Custom Software, our custom RS232/12VDC Backside Interface, and our Dash Board Mounting Bracket. When all done I hope to have these available for $50 to $60. It Currently can display using Dynon & Garmin G3x Serial Data Input, but were working on a MGL Data input. On my Dash I have it connected to our FlyOnSpeed,org Gen2 AOA system (checkout our Web Site). We have 3 programmed graphic displays first shows AOA Graphic, Slip/Skid and percent lift (0-99), 2nd shows AOA graphic and additional aircraft data (IAS & G's), 3rd has a Attitude Display (& Digital Readout) plus IAS, Alt, Slip/Skid Ball,G's, AOA % Lift. Press Center button on the M5 to change Mode, Left & Right Buttons adjust Display Brightness. We also have designed a small Hood that fits over the Display to help with Glare. Works OK.

Is this different from the EFIS to HUD project? https://github.com/flyonspeed/efis_to_hud
I'm working on configuring the standard MGL tone generator with OnSpeed tones and separately mark Onspeed and Max L/D on a custom screen using the existing MGL AoA widget. The M5 AOA with the donut seems like a sensible next project to go on top of the glare shield using a feed from the iEFIS MX1.

Re: HUD
Yes, this is HUD project #2, HUD #1--> the efis_to_hud to HUD project still 100% exists, just has slowed down, This HUD #2 was created to provide a Cheap & Simple HUD directly focused on our On-Speed project. HUD #1 has been installed in several aircraft and has good reviews. Its just a lot more complicated to install & integrate.

Re: HUD Project Update
My son and I have been adding some interesting functionality to our HUD project now with the addition of several DOGFIGHT BFM modes. I completed some testing this week with both Video Camera/DVR fixes and LCOS fixes. Primary interface is with my MGL EFIS and we use ADSB between own ship and wingman to provide ranging and have a Gun Funnel mode for unranged practice BFM. LCOS graphic display is based off of some digital HUDs we are familiar with the range ring active inside of 9000 feet and closer. The ADSB function filters out all but the closest ADSB tgt and provides ranging to the HUD LCOS along with Tgt N-Number and other info for display on the HUD. Currently there are 4 Dogfight Modes in the software, 1 LCOS and 3 GUNFUNNEL (unranged tgt) modes selectable for wing spans of 25/30/&35 feet. HUD functions are controlled by a 10 Key pad just below the HUD with a number of functions changed through multikey presses on that function key. It's pretty clear over time I'll need to expand my HOTAS switch functions and not just use a keypad. The attached pictures are screen shots from my latest test flight Gun Camera Video. I'm using a micro video camera designed for the FPV Drone Racing world with a micro telephoto lens and the camera is mounted inside the HUD and Pilot FOV, the camera is connected to a 4 hour micro HDMI DVR that works great. Camera has a ND32 filter to help get rid of the Prop Blur. Still lots of little software issues and calibration test flights ahead but I wanted to share the progress with those that may still be interested in a HUD for their RV. You will notice that this awesome little HUD is still clearly visible on this bright sunny day even when flying directly info the sun as is shown in the Grayish Video shot (heading 113degs). You will notice some blurring in the video's caused by camera vibration, not a HUD issue, just the camera, a significant improvement to what it was at first but still annoying (prop has been balanced). I'll be giving a Forum at Oshkosh on our DIY HUD project progress and will include some of my HUD gun camera video. Anyone wanting to get involved, install a HUD in their aircraft, or help out in the project is welcome to contact me.

MGL EFIS HUD display using Augmented Reality Glasses
Augmented Reality HUD Glasses Software and Instructions Update
I have continued working on our HUD project and have added a Head Mounted Display capability using Augmented Reality Glasses that work super in daytime using MGL EFIS data to display our HUD software. I have included below an updated Demo and Install instructions I have been working on over the summer as follows;
1) Improvements have been made to the MGL data parser.
2) MGL system will show simulated Radar altimeter data in the HUD (using the digital terrain model) where you will see the AGL Altitude in the HUD and HMD/AR Glasses (but only as accurate as the MGL EFIS can provide it).
3) The HUD graphics have been optimized for the 1920 x 1080 AR Glasses pixel resolution. This has also fixed the boot up issues with the LORYI HDMI to USB-C Video and power cable, as shown in the HUD shopping list in our FlyOnSpeed web site -->FlyOnSpeed/HUD web site;
https://www.flyonspeed.org/hud
4) The new FlyOnSpeed AOA Graphics display profile has been added to the HUD display, details are in the updated instructions (if your aircraft has an AOA system). AOA uses the MGL computed AOA for data, so MAKE SURE your AOA is properly Calibrated.
5) The expanded download and set up instructions (some 17 pages) and 6 Sept24 software can be found at my Google Drive Link below
---- a) How to download and use this Raspberry pi5 SD Memory Card (pdf) (instructions)
---- b) RasPi5_G3x_6Sept24_ARGlass_Update.zip (Raspberry Pi 5 Software Update)
---- c) Web Link --> Google Drive Web Link (Both instructions and software can be found at this web link)
--> https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/ ... R5OtGSoxwQ
6) Software can currently integrate with serial data from MGL, Garmin G3x, Dynon Skyview & D100, and GRT, and using wifi Stratux, iLevil BOM, iLevil 3, uAvionix Echo UAT, Dual XGPS190, Dynon ADSB wifi. It can process both EFIS serial and ADSB-WIFI data at the same time.
Note: The Demo software can support all these systems with a config file change as outlined in the instructions. The DEMO file comes configured with the G3x set for a live data boot up as well as several G3x and MGL recorded demo files for playback. For MGL autoboot up for live data you must follow the instructions foe a simple text editor config file change from G3x to MGL.
I have added some new graphics charts below outlining what is required for a basic HUD software demo using included playback of recorded flight data, and also what additional requirements are needed to add the complete system to your aircraft.

HUD software MX1 compatiablity
After reviewing the MX1 Documentation it looks like along with the iEFIS & iEFIS Lite, the MX1 Blackbox Serial RS232 Data Feed output is already compatible with our FlyOnSpeed HMD HUD software and the XReal Augmented Reality visual HUD system. While I don't have a MX1 to test it with Ranier says in the MX1 install manual its compatible with the existing Blackbox analysis tools so that's what is needed. So far I only know of 2 RV-8's with MGL avionics that are using this HUD system (1 with iEFIS Challenger and 1 with the iEFIS Lite (Not sure which version)? So MX1 & iEFIS users lets get exploring the next step in the Evolution of Experimental Avionics! Goto https://www.flyonspeed.org/hud for a more complete explanation of HUD's, our HUD software, and how how to build your own system.
The most expensive part of developing a cutting edge system like this using off the shelf economical components is the software and our team provides it at no cost. You can build this whole system now for under $600 (US Dollars). And yes many more upgrades are coming. A small Neural Network Head tracking camera systems for the HMD HUD is being tested, adding a NEMA NAV Data parser to the selectable data input systems is in Beta testing, and were well along with a windows based design your own HUD graphics display software release.

Re: HUD
I have it working in my RV8 with an Explorer Lite iEFIS circa 2022. Works like advertised. You have to enable flight mode to transmit the black box data to the serial port. Really fun. Fantastic value for giggles per dollar. It’s also an easy way to let a back seat pilot see flight data.
Thanks
