Razor firmware update.

Post by matthunter1448 »

Tried. This. I know all my cables are working I just updated the v16 and n16 right before trying to update the razor. So I went to update the razor and can't get it to boot into the different mode so I can click update on the PC. Anything extra I need to do?

Nope, same process.
Use RS232 port 1 on the Razor - make sure your connections are correct and that you also have ground connected between RS232 on your PC (pin5) and the Razor.
Start the updater and select to update the Razor - then apply power cleanly to the Razor - the updating software should then show the message "ready to program".

There is a way to see if at least the Razor is seen by your PC - i.e. The TX from the Razor is arriving at the RX of your PC serial port.

Use Hyperterminal or any other terminal emulation program and open the port you have the Razor connected to - configure the port for a baudrate of 9600 with no handshake, 8 bits, 1 start, 1 stop.
Everytime you apply power to the Razor you should see the text "OK" arrive.

To place the Razor manually into programming mode - as soon as you see the OK answer with ESC P R O G as fast as you can. If the razor sees that it will respond with #

If that happens the link is good. Doing the above will not harm the code inside the Razor - it's merely the initial sequence to get things going. You can safely switch off after this.

ESC P R O G without the spaces and the characters in uppercase. ESC is of course the escape key on your keyboard.

So I don't really know how to use hyper terminal. But. Something I did notice. When I have the v16 updater open it will load into the boot mode fine. Of course I don't click update now because that's the wrong firmware but. Just noticed it will do it perfectly fine with the v16 updater program but not the razor updater program

I had this same issue on Windows 10 using a certain RS-232 cable. I installed an RS-232 emulator and made an emulated port that mapped directly to the "real" COM port. So, my "real" port was COM 3, and I created an emulated port COM 6, and mapped COM 6 to COM 3. As crazy as it sounds, it worked perfectly.
