MX1 and Trig TY91

Post by BushCatDon »

Hi again Rainier,

Also - is there an interface yet for the MX1 to control the Trig TY91?? I do have the Trig Control Head.

Thanks again - Don

Hi Don,

I assume you know that MGL does not manufacture an interface for the TY91. It does for the transponders (TT21, TT22 etc) and they work very well but there is not an equivalent for the radio. Instead, you have to make up a fairly simple couple of wires/resistors to the TY91's TMAP as a 'fudge' to get it to talk to the EFIS. I have an iEFIS Lite and ran the radio controlling wires from my Extender but you can use a different RS232 port if available. It works well and I can get all the functions of the TY91 without a control head. On my machine both the radio and transponder are controlled through the EFIS, with no control heads in the panel. The nice thing about the radio 'fudge' is that you can have both, unlike the transponder where it has to be one or the other.

The MX1 does NOT support any third party radios except for any radios that can understand the Garmin protocol which I believe the TY91 can do via the head.
Support for many third party items was removed from the MX1 code to make it fit the available program storage space (The MX1 runs its code directly from memory built into the processor).

Is there a wiring diagram on how to wire the Trig TC90 head to the MX1? Thanks
