V16 setup instructions

Post by markkkk42 »

Hi Rainier
On the old forum you posted a setup of setting the levels of the V16 to get everything working can you post those again please. I just got hold of one and have it working on the bench with a Vega head just receiving via a speaker and I havent wired it up for headsets yet but I do know some headsets can create issues. I am using Lightspeed Zulu 3. I am impressed how accurate the RSSI is too on the display compared to the signal generator output

Easiest way is to tune radio to an unused frequency, talk into the mic and note the level of your side tone in the headset when pressing PTT or not pressing PTT. If the loudness sounds the same the level is good. If it is different - adjust the MIC input level until it is the same.

TX uses automatic gain control to set the level so that is your reference (You are listening to what goes out on air).

If TX is louder then increase MIC gain. If TX is softer then decrease gain. Once they are the same you use the intercom audio level to adjust both synchonously.

All other levels (RX level with its own volume) and AUX input are now set with your reference level.

Note: If not using the AUX input please switch it off - if it is left unconnected and enabled it can easily pickup annoying noise as it is a very high impedance input to give it maximum flexibility (so it will not load weak audio sources).

THanks, Rainier,
I was also looking for that info for one of my clients.

Best regards, Stalky
