hi folks
I've just bought a P&M Pegasus QuikR that has the enigma panel installed.
My icom a6 radio is picking up a huge amount of RF from the enigma unit.
Unfortunately I am very limited to where I can mount the radio as I have very little space on the panel
My question is this.... is there anyway i can quieten down the RF emitted from the enigma unit.
As it is at the moment the machine is pretty much unflyable due to the amount of RF through the headset
Hope this makes sense
thanks
lawrie

If you have mounted the radio with its rubber ducky antenna close to the Enigma you have no chance. These antennas are really sensitive to magnetic fields which are radiated by LCD displays. A normal well tuned antenna does not react much to magnetic fields. Magnetic fields are very short range (normally you cannot pick them up more than about 6 feet away). Radio waves that travel are electrostatic fields.
Most would mount a whip antenna on a wheel spat or ontop of the wing. It is still important to try and match the antenna as best as possible to avoid the cable from playing antenna (that gets close to the radio again).
In some cases it is possible for the EMI from the EFIS or other similar device to couple to the airframe. If that happens the airframe itself resonates and transmits the signal and it can be surprisingly effective. I recall a case many years ago were it was possible to receive the EFIS 300 feet away. The fix was very simple in that case - the long cable to the RDAC was bunched up inside the pod and that caused a coupling onto the airframe - quick work with a side cutter and reconnecting a now much shorter RDAC cable sorted it.
But I do not know of a successful installation of an antenna really close to the EFIS that does not have at least some interference (this tends to vary with tuned frequency and screen content).

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm stuffed then.
Who would have thought it a good idea to put an efis in a microlight eh??
