Can RDAC 'share' sensors with steam gauges?

Post by andynoiseboy »

Hello All
I have the common VDO gauges/sensors for oil temp/pressure, water temp and CHT on a Rotax 912 and have added an MGL RDAC. Is it possible to connect the RDAC associated inputs to these sensors whilst they still 'drive' the VDO steam gauges?

Thanks in advance

Depends on the steam gauges.

the steam gauge Sensors depend on pulldown resistors. if the steam gauge has the same pulldown value as the MGL, it could be possible to read with the RDAC with PD/PU off so it just reads the voltage of the resistor pair VDO to sensor.

If the resistor is different, you may tweak the shown values in MGL with a fake value for the sensor, eg the pressure sensor as 12.6 bar sensor.

In general, I would not recommend it if you are not very familiar with sensor operation and electronics. Too much trouble for the win.
But its worth a try, of course.

I also would like to keep my analog fuel gauges and connect the senders to the RDAC.

My resistive fuel senders use 30 ohm for full tank and 240 ohm for empty.

Would it work simply connecting them to the RDAC XF FL1/FL2, for reading in a Xtreme EMS?
Thank in advance
