iEFIS Lite and RDAC’s

Greetings all.
I am struggeling a bit with the condiguration of my system, and seeking advice.
I have a iEFIS Lite hooked up to a RDAC CAN and a RDAC XF on CAN BUS network. I have a UL Power engine (single ECU) and uses the RDAC CAN for ECU data, and the RDAC XF for my thermocouples.

I have problems with assigning the RDAC’s correctly to the iEFIS. It seemes like the RDAC CAN takes precedence and defaults to no 1, and then I struggle to get my thermocouples to show up on the screen from RDAC XF. Directions on how to set up correctly, i.e. assigning RDAC’s (dip switches and iEFIS meny) is highly appreciated.
Kind regards Rune

Your XF must be set to RDAC 2 (via the dip switch).
You must make a custom engine monitoring portion of your displays (you can just copy your existing) and assign whatever you want to use from the XF to RDAC number 2.

Thanks for the feedback. Being rather new to setting up and configuring my iEFIS, is there a good description on how to modify the engine monitoring screen and changes in assignment?
Thanks, Rune

There was quite a bit on the old forum, sadly lost now.
But go onto youtube and search for "Dutchroll". This is from a MGL user who got a bit into this and made some really nice videos. You have to page down a bit until you get to his videos (once you are past the many videos describing how to fly one).

In your case it is pretty simple as you will not actually be changing screens.

1) First use the simulator and select everything like you have on your current screens on the real EFIS - you use the same menus etc.
2) Then create a new project using the current screens (once this is done you can edit the screen files). The "built in" screens have now been copied as editable screen files into your projects "Screens" folder.
3) Start with page 1, go into screen designer mode and select "Design custom engine module".

Now you will see a mostly black screen with just the engine part showing. A list "Items in current module" shows what is in that module and the order which these are drawn. Look for EGT items (bargraph, scanning text etc).
Double click on the Line Bargraph: TC1-TC12 as EGT.
The Line bargraph item editor pops up.
Change bargraph data source from RDAC 1 to RDAC 2 and then close the editor.
Repeat similar for any other item you might want from RDAC 2.

Repeat the above for any other page that has an engine section.

Once all done close the screen designer.

Now you have to copy the newly edited screen files (Engine1.sdf, Engine2.sdf, etc) to an SD card and from there into the screens folder of your real EFIS. (You can use the installation tasks function for that or use the built in file manager). One final thing you have to do: Tell your EFIS to use your screens. System Setup menu -> Standard System selections. Select the Engine entry to "custom screens". Now exit the menus (which will save you setting) and you are done.

There are also two docs you might be interested in at www.mglavionics.co.za - go to the iEFIS under products and select "documents". Get the iEFIS Alteration guide and there is another one describing how to add a rotor craft instrument - you don't want to do that but this document is a nice step by step with a lot of pictures from start to finish.

Not sure how to make a post. What I would like to know if anyone knows if the MGL VDO oil sensor readings can be calibrated? When in my heated garage with temps above 78 degs. I show 78 +- 3 on the ot, EGT,and CHT. The oil temp reading is 13 degs. higher. Can this be fixed in the programings?

Rainier,
That thread was very important in helping me understand how to use the screen designer. As Dutchroll and others would post comments I would copy and paste a lot of them into a word document for later reference. Although by no means a complete copy of that lengthy thread I do have about 6 pages I am happy to share
