GPS position out to Garmin radio?

I have a G3 iEFIs with a Garmin GTR225 radio.
The radio can be controlled from the EFIS but some of the functionality of the radio depends on a GPS position source. From my understanding of the radio install manual it accepts RS232 in which I presume is currently the method whereby the iefis controls the radio. Is there any way to get the EFIS to broadcast the gPS postion (SL30/40 format?) to the radio along that same connection?
Not sure if this makes sense?
