A firmware update for the iEFIS has been posted that addresses this for the iEFIS Lite.
The reason this happens is if the RPM reads 9001 it is a code to indicate that there is no data from the ECU. This code is recognized and will lead to skipping of hobbs and tach updates but only if it has also been determined that a ECU based RDAC connection has been detected. This is done by means of a status message that gets sent every 4 seconds. However the EFIS times out on this after 3 seconds (hence the 1/4 rate). This has been changed to 12 seconds and the issue goes away.

Re: Hobbs Meter
I installed the latest EXP3.BIN file and let the EFIS run for 2 hours with the Lanes OFF and the RPM Displaying 9001.
The HOBBS and TACH Timers did not increment any amount at all, as expected!
It looks like we have a working solution!
Thanks, Rainier!!!
I'll bet that was a sneaky bug to find.
Bill.

You win the bet.
Yes, it took a little while until the light bulb went on.
