Challenger Lite w/extender -autopilot engages randomly

Post by gd5362 »

My autopilot has recently started to engage randomly either right after engine start or during taxi. It has not done so in flight.
Any thoughts?

Thanks

Not knowing your particular set up, can I suggest the following as a starting point.

Firstly, before we start delving into the EFIS or extender firmware or software, especially if you have not done any type of firmware/software upgrade recently to bring this on.

I would check what the Voyager is showing, if your autopilot is engaged or disengaged when this happens? If the Voyager show the autopilot is engaged, I would check and test the following,

Test your remote autopilot switches that can turn your autopilot on and off, disconnect this remote switch and the wiring at your avionics units. If by disconnecting the remote switch stops your problem, then I would then test the remote switch and wiring.

Test the remote switch for correct operation with a multimeter, when checking move the button side ways and push on off many times to make sure the switch is good, once you know the switch is good then go to the next step.

Now check the wiring to and from the switch and make sure it has not rubbed through anywhere causing the autopilot to activate from a short.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Thanks for the reply JimJab,
No switches to worry about and the Challenger does show autopilot engaged. No recent updates and disengages normally. Very strange....
