EFIS Odyssey TFT-LCD Problem

Post by gelbevierzehn »

Hi,

I am using the Odyssey G2 in my Vans RV-6 and loving it.
Now I have the problem, that from time to time I get a flickering, (running) image on the TFT-screen.
The interesting thing is, that I can stop that flickering, if I press firmly with my thumb on the TFT-frame at a spot next to the ACK-Button. After I did that, the flickering is gone for a few minutes or somtimes even for hours.

So I opened the case for an inspection and what I found was the repair attempt of the preowner using lots of hot glue.

After removing the "hot glue mess" I found this little Adapter-PCB that connects the FPC-FFC Flatcable to the DF9A Connector of the TFT-LCD Screen.
Unfortunately the PCB is broken and the LCD-Connector has detached from the PCB.
My question is, is it possible to get a spare "adapter"?
The little adapter-PCB has the signature "MGL 154A".

Many thanks in advance...

Update....

Problem solved, we just "drag soldered" both connectors back to the PVB and the screen-flickering is gone (until now).

Hello, I have the same problem as gelbevierzehn and it also is alleviated by putting pressure on the lower left section of the Bezel.
I'm not confident of my soldering abilities and wonder are replacement parts available to fix this?
Thankyou.

Hi Ranger,

I was also not very trained in soldering, but it is not as difficult as it seems...
If you have the same flickering effect as I had, the joints for the DF9A LCD-connector on the tiny PCB are the problem.
You can remove the little PCB very easy and the soldering with the help of magnifying glasses can be done by hand.
I used this little youtube tutorial to guide me through the process...

Good luck!!

Any workshop that does mobile phone repairs can easily reflow the connector soldering joints.

The image above showing the PCB glued down with silicon - this was not done by us. Most of the PCBs where held down with a small bracket screwed to the two small threads on the side of the actual display metal housing. On early systems we used double sided tape between PCB and display.

Thankyou gelbevierzehn, I'll take a look at the video and perhaps try out the method on some less important component boards like old RPi boards I have hanging around.
Rainer, thanks that sounds like a way to go if I remain less than confident to do it myself, can I take it from your reply that replacements are not easily available?
