Make a quick GLS runway

Post by rainier »

Did you know that you can create a runway for use with GLS and display on the EFIS as you approach just with a few taps ?

Go to supplementary waypoint editor.

Tap on "Mode select" and select "ADD waypoint"

From the popup select "Make a GLS Runway"

A popup appears. Leave it on the screen.

Taxi to the first runway threshold. When lined up tap "Set Threshold 1 from GPS and altimeter".
Taxi to the second runway threshold and repeat but tap "set Threshold 2 from GPS and altimeter".

Give the waypoint a name (first line). The runway name is automatically calculated for example it may show "06/24 L:0.8Nm".

Of course the above assumes you have a good GPS fix and you have set your barometer setting to reflect the correct elevations.

You can also edit these fields yourself if you have the runway data from another source.

Once you have completed the above - tap on "Save this runway data and exit".

This runway is now saved as a special kind of waypoint. It uses the normal "long waypoint name" field to store the actual data so this type of waypoint does not have a "long name".

The EFIS continuously looks through the navigation data including the supplementary waypoints to find nearby waypoints of interest and will find the runway and display it in the same way as any other runway from a commercial data source. So it will give you run way approach guidance (the blue crosses) and you can activate it as GLS source.

It allows you to practice ILS approaches to your little farm dirt strip for example...

Please confirm that for the Voyager simulator "Make a GLS Runway" does not exist, as it doesn't on my simulator.

This functionality was added for iEFIS systems and does not exist for the older Odyssey/Voyager/Enigma EFIS systems. Sorry.
