IEFIS Chalenger audio

Post by sapril001 »

Hi,
I just installed a Chalenger IEFIS with a V16 radio on my airplane , the audio is working I am greeted with the usual ''GPS Available '' and ''Waypoint Arrival' every time I energize my panel. I have set the alarms low and high for most of the sensors connected to my RDACS. The problem I have is I can not have the audio with any alarms. I can not find either the location in the menu where we can select the voice words for each individual alarm, there must be a place similar to the Odyssey where we can select those individual on or off voice message.

Thanks
Sylvain April, Murphy Moose.

Effectively this has been moved to the individual item - for example if you want alarms for oil pressure you go to the oil pressure setup menu and you will then find a setting what to do in case of alarm including audio. There is no need to select the phrases as we did with the old systems. The idea at the time was to make it flexible so you could record your own phrases in whatever language and create the audio file accordingly - that's what the Enigma voice application was for. You would record the various phrases in a normal WAV file and that would then be compressed using a custom algorithm and gathered into the sounds file that you use with the EFIS.
But nobody used this as far as I can tell so it was ditched when we did the iEFIS for a more straight forward and simpler way for the user.

Thanks for the explanations, that Odyssey I had was amazing I flew behind it for ten years without any problem at all after it was set up.
I still have to tune things on this new iEFIS but it show very nice capability also.

Thanks
Sylvain

Hello.

Cabling for this option is?

iEFIS power connector pin#3 (audio output) to V16 pin#20 (Aux Audio IN)?

I see an "Aux Audio IN GND" on V16 (pin#19), but no Audio Out GND for iEFIS...

I have an iEFIS Challenger Lite.

Thank you.
Manolo.

Hello.

Any idea about the connection needed? I have no audio messages from iEFIS on my V16.

Where do I need to connect V16 (pin#19) "Aux Audio IN GND" to?

Thank you.

The audio out from EFIS would connect to AUX in on the V16.
You can use any of the Audio grounds.
Note that sometimes depending on how currents flow through your system grounds you can induce noise - often that sounds like chirping noise that is regular and may come from the EFIS - the sound may change with different screens. It can also easily be introduced by electrical motors, USB chargers, strobe light systems etc.
The simplest way to eliminate this is to use a small audio 1:1 transformer - usually they are 600 ohms impedance. Connected one side (two wires) to ground and audio out of the EFIS and the other to the V16 AUX input and audio ground. This effectively breaks any ground loop as no direct currents can flow between the two and noise usually cannot pass the transformer as it tends to be common noise on the line (i.e. both lines have the same noise and polarity so net there is no signal across the transformer input). Since the transformer blocks DC current it also protects EFIS and V16 in case of ground faults.

Thank you very much Rainier. Now it's clear.

Then something like this? Just to be sure and avoid "accidents".

Yes - the ground from your transformer should be wired to the ground supply pin of the EFIS - don't connect it to any other ground connection.

Hello.

Finally I have installed this transformer from Bourns on these pins:

but I don't hear anything from iEFIS (I hear traffic fine).

I downloaded and installed sounds file from here too:

https://www.mglavionics.co.za/iefissounds.html

I think iEFIS config for sound is fine:

Any idea where the problem is? I need to close the glareshield as soon as I can.

Thank you. Manolo.
