Bitching Betty is a bit Slow!

Post by Tasmag »

Hi all

Explorer Lite
Dual v16
SP7
SP6
Extender
A16

The iefis audio alerts don't seem to be sending when they should, sometimes notified of something that happened minutes before. (Such as A/P disconnected).

It's always been like that and wanted some feedback on whether others have the issue.

Hi Mike,

I guess this is really a Rainer question?

But, I don't seem to have any delays with my alerts on a Voyager EFIS, they all seem to be very timely.

Betty, with my AP disconnect alert, is with in a second of being disconnected.

Looking at the IEFIS as a computer, it sounds like the CPU is being kept busy dealing with other processors before playing the Audio Alerts, so your alerts may have a lesser priority and not being played in a timely manner.

So I am wonder, if there's a priority selection any where in IEFIS menu system, to give Betty's Alerts a higher priority and dealt with them quicker.

Jim

Haven't seen anything like that in the menu system unfortunately.

It seems to be mainly a/p and oil pressure that i notice, traffic alerts seem pretty good.

Hi Mike,

Well the oil pressure is a pretty important alert,

I would have a look to see if you also have the Screen Alert selected for the oil pressure, as well as the Audio Alert, if you do, does your screen Alerts show up in a timely manner? or are the Screen Alerts delayed as well?

I have been a self taught computer nerd for many years and have written a couple of quite large programs in VB6, back in 2007-9.

Firstly, I would test and watch to see if your Screen Alerts, say for the oil pressure are showing up on the screen in a timely manner.

If these Screen Alerts are showing up on the screen in a timely manner, I would being thinking there could a bug in the IEFIS Operating System Firmware and this could have happen during the last install of the operating system and the command coding to run the Audio Alerts has been corrupted in some way.
So as a stating point, I would try booting up your IEFIS off an external SD card with the latest Operating Firmware Version, with the SD Card having a fresh down loaded file from the MGL Web site.
After doing this and the problem seem to be corrected and all else seems well, I would then save your current Firmware Operating file off the internal Flash Drive to another SD card, just to have and incase.

Then I would load the good operating system to the IEFIS internal flash drive from the external SD card and then reboot your IEFIS and see how it now works.

      Cheers

      Thanks Jim

It's always done it, even between updates.

I'll give it a go and see what happens.
