Xtreme EMS Gps Antenna

Post by Spooby »

Hello,

I have the Xtreme EMS and would like to know what everyone else has done to connect a GPS to it? I don't have the EMS (easy antenna install).

I do have a Garmin G5 with an external antenna. Would I be able to connect the RS-232 in/out from the G5 to the Xtreme EMS RS-232 in/out and then be able to receive satellite signal on it?

Or if I'm able to install an external GPS receiver, is there any someone would recommend? Do I just splice the 2 wires off the GPS antenna into the RS-232 in/out on the Xtreme EMS?

Thank you in advance. :ugeek:

Hi Spooby,

You can connect the Garmin G5 RS232 Tx and RS232 ground to the Xtreme EMS Port 2 Rs232 Rx and ground. (Setup the garmin and Xtreme accordingly eg Baud rate)

Any external GPS receiver that is capable of RS232 NMEA out can be connected to the Xtreme EMS. You cannot just cut of the connector on a normal GPS antenna as this is not RS232. It must be a RS232 output GPS antenna.

The easiest would be to connect to the Garmin G5 unit.

Franz
