Xtreme EMS display not working correctly

Post by VacaMoo »

I have the Xtreme EMS connected to the Garmin Aera 660. It's showing STATUS : 3D FIX and all satellites are green but it's not showing the SIGNAL QUALITY levels like it shows in the manual.

I'm hoping someone has gone through this and knows how to correct it because support in the USA just told me it should work but I should just move on and ignore the fact that it's not working correctly and enjoy the rest of the MGL equipment.

I'm sure someone has gone through this before and knows how to correct it. I figured I'd ask here first before I ask on social media aviation groups to find the fix for this problem.

Does anyone have an MGL Xtreme EMS connected to a Gamin GPS, or to any GPS? I'm trying to find out if it's my Garmin Aera 660 or the MGL Xtreme EMS who's not working correctly because I was just told the problem is that it's a brand compatibility issue where I'm mixing brands so no brand will work 100%, but I've asked them before to show me which MGL GPS do they sell or to tell me which GPS is 100% compatible, and no reply from them.

Is there any way to contact the MGL company for support? MGL in America just keeps giving me incorrect answers apparently to see if I believe one of them and go away, but I'd like to get to the bottom of this to make sure it's not a safety issue. After all we're in the air and count on the reliability of our avionics, it's not like we can just park on the side of the road if an issue comes up.

I've got mine connected to my own GPS unit.

I am only sending the RMC and GGA messages and also get a partial view.

It says its still acquiring, but shows lat/lon, but not altitude and doesn't set the date (only the zulu time) and local time is stuffed.

Haven't tried sending all 4 messagaes as requested in the manual as yet

But enough seems to be received for the fuel flow calculations to work.

I just need the time stuff to work.

Hi

This is a bug in the Garmin Aera 660 where the Garmin is outputting 0 for the signal to noise ratio. See below.

Regards,
Franz

Data capture from Garmin Aero 660

$GPGSV,3,1,12,03,05,035,00,06,73,020,00,11,61,234,00,12,28,317,00*76
$GPGSV,3,2,12,17,30,068,00,19,50,043,00,22,43,131,00,24,28,260,00*76
$GPGSV,3,3,12,51,50,200,00,71,09,062,00,78,31,325,00,87,52,000,00*73

As you can see all the signal to noise ratio (C/NO) fields is always zero for every satellite.
