ELT interface

Post by Bill Hertzel »

I have an ACK E-04 ELT installed.
It has the ability to receive NMEA GPS Location Data via RS-232.
This allows the ELT to immediately tell the Satellites exactly where to send Search and Rescue as opposed to the satellites taking 5 minutes to figure out where you are within 2 miles, assuming post crash events (Fire/Sinking) don't disable the ELT before the 5 minutes run out.

I have an EFIS extender installed with lots of unused RS-232 Ports.
I can connect the ELT to the Extender but there does not seem to be NMEA OUT selection.
Is there a non-obvious selection that outputs NMEA location data?

You can select "GPS NMEA port" in the Serial port routing/allocations menu for any of the RS232 ports on the Extender.

Menu/ System setup menu / Serial port routing/allocations

Thanks, Paul,
I saw that option and assumed it was configured as NMEA-IN for connecting an External GPS to the EFIS and not a NMEA-OUT port.
I will give it a try and let you know the results.
