Legacy product question

I purchased a Onex /AeroVee project.
Engine instrumentation is Stratomaster Velocity.
Everything works except RPM readout. Nothing.
I have read instructions for instrument and AeroVee. Sonex suggests input on one of alternator wires to rectifier/regulator.
MGL shows RPM input on pin 5 (blue wire).
I did continuity test between those locations and confirmed there is a circuit.
Pulses are set at 6 per Sonex manual for 20 amp alternator.
What am I missing?
The MGL manual makes no reference to selecting RPM function. Making me think it populates automatically when connected to impulse source.
In summary, the wiring appears correct. No reading.
Instrument failure? How would one test?
