MicroKit Wifi interface

Post by Drummer Dan »

The MicroKit Wifi interface is a very interesting piece of kit, and should prove very popular.

I wonder if it will have any addional funionality in the future, like audio alerts over blutooth?

Currently it provides a link to upload flightplans into the EFIS from various sources (We are trying to get more flight planning apps on board).
It also provides certain flight data to apps that can use it - for example Foreflight.
We are working on adding functionality to be able to transfer large files safely (considering interruptions etc) so we can do uploads of Navidata, firmware updates and perhaps maps (these are very big files of course, usually several gigs).

It is not suitable or intended for audio.

Just a quick update on the Microkit WiFi Gateway for MGL

It passes all ADS-B (IN) data to MGL using any open GDL-90 WiFi ADS-B Receiver. (It can be configured to connect to your ADS-B Receiver via WiFi similar to how the iPad connects to the ADS-B Receiver).

And it transfers Flight Plans seamlessly from ForeFlight or other iOS EFB Apps that support FPL file format sharing.

Here is link to a video demo using it with ForeFlight. In this demo, both the iPhone & Microkit WiFi Gateway are connected to an ADS-B Receiver network similar to how it is going to be used in the airplane.

For those without an open GDL-90 ADS-B Receiver; they can still use the Flight Plan transfer feature by having the iOS Device (iPad or iPhone) connect to the Microkit WiFi Gateway network directly.

For those not using iOS; they can transfer Flight Plan using the Gateway built-in WiFi pages using any browser once connected to the Gateway network.

As Rainier mentioned; transferring other files is in the pipeline; receiving the Engine Data file is also on the list. New features are added by updating the Microkit WiFi Gateway firmware using WiFi as well.

Note, the Microkit Transfer to EFIS Extension App should be available shortly at the App Store. Once downloaded, its adds an extension to EFB Apps that share flight plans.

And I forgot to mention; for our cousins across the pond. It does work with SkyDemon & PocketFMS EasyVFR4.

PocketFMS did a direct integration with the Gateway within the App. So, a Transfer to MGL will be available within the App itself (on all EasyVFR4 platforms).

For SkyDemon; Microkit worked with the SkyDemon team and their next update of the SkyDemon App will include FPL file sharing so the App share extension will work.
