In most cases, it needs to be on the main battery cable that feeds the main bus so that it may show the differential of current drawn by the bus and charge replaced by the alternator/generator. If the battery is charging, it should be at a positive number. If it's discharging, it should be a negativ...

Where is the ammeter installed? It almost seems like it's reading alternator output and not battery amperage...

The LM335 can connect to the RDAC - Green for ground and red for signal. Connect it to AUX1 if you want to use analog channel 3 or AUX2 for analog channel 4. Turn on the AUX 1 or AUX 2 PU switch on the RDAC.

There is a ZIP file that has a collection of the binaries for said Vega and Blaze units as well as a firmware revision changelog.
